The GREAT ESCAPE Physics Challenge

The following graphs were created using Texas Instruments CBL's and Vernier accelerometers. IMPORTANT NOTE: The acceleromters can measure acceleration in only one direction and were calibrated so that when stationary and pointed down a reading of 9.8m/s2 would be recorded.

So, the challenge is this...match the graphs with the rides. Hint: Pay particular attention to the amount of acceleration (10m/s2 is approximately 1g) and the duration of the acceleration.

The Graphs of are the following rides:

A The Comet (vertical acceleration)
B The Pirate (vertical acceleration)
C Bumper Car 1 (stationary, hit from behind)
D Bumper Car 2 (moving, hits car 1)
E Condor (horizontal acceleration)
F Bobsled (vertical acceleration)
G Nightmare (vertical acceleration)
